Sortbat Belgium
Sortbat’s story began in Belgium in 2010. We initially focused on sorting batteries collected by Bebat, but over the years have grown into a leading pioneer for battery afterlife solutions.
Our expertise
Our Belgian facility in Tienen delivers cutting-edge battery sorting technology. Every day, we sort over 500,000 used batteries, dismantle larger batteries such as EV batteries, and test modules and cells for safe use in second-life applications.
Next to operations, we share our expertise through research partnerships and training programmes, helping to drive the circular economy across Europe.
Ministers visit Sortbat to explore battery innovation
Ministers Jo Brouns and Yves Coppieters visited Sortbat to explore Xbat.ai, our new AI- and X-ray-powered sorting line developed with VITO, along with our expertise in safely dismantling high-energy batteries. Their visit highlights Belgium’s leadership in battery safety, innovation and circular solutions.
Xbat.ai
Our Xbat.ai technology, co-developed with VITO, revolutionises battery sorting safety through a combination of AI and X-ray. This semi-automatic innovation eliminates manual handling risks while enhancing sorting efficiency across battery types.
Watt4Ever
Watt4Ever commercialises battery modules and cells from EV batteries for second-life applications. We develop and build custom battery designs, mostly for ESS applications. That way, we create a more efficient and sustainable path for used EV batteries.
